Hughes Insists Robinho Will Stay
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes insists record signing Robinho will not be leaving the club in the summer. The 25-year-old Brazilian signed for a British record £32.5m in September, but despite scoring 12 goals he has yet to get off the mark in 2009. Robinho has been linked with a move away from Eastlands at the end of the season but Hughes rejects the idea. "He is in my plans long term. People who say otherwise are just being mischievous," said the Welshman. "He is an outstanding player who wants to be part of what we are doing, but he is also a professional football player and he doesn't enjoy getting beaten." In January, Robinho was fined for leaving the club's training camp on the Spanish island of Tenerife without permission. The forward made an unscheduled departure by flying home to Brazil without telling Hughes that he had to attend some "family business". Rumours have persisted that player, who signed a four-year deal at City, and manager have a poor relationship but Hughes denies the claim. "There is no reason for anybody to think Robinho is not playing well for any other reason than the opposition stopping him," said Hughes. "He is aware of the stories about him and he knows the focus is on him." Story from BBC SPORT: http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/7962427.stm |
